Each person taps “⚖️ Weight” next to their name on the Family tab. The daily reference is then based on body weight:
Calories ≈ weight (kg) × 30 kcal Protein ≈ weight (kg) × 1 g (typical adult)
For example, 60 kg (132 lb) ≈ 1,800 kcal and 60 g of protein. Without a weight, we use an adult average of 2,000 kcal and 60 g. The family reference is everyone added together.
Protein uses the typical-adult standard of 1.0 g per kg. (People who train to build muscle often aim for about 1.6 g per kg — for reference only.)
This is a rough estimate for lightly active adults. Children, pregnancy, heavy exercise or health conditions call for advice from a doctor or dietitian.
The first person taps “Create our fridge” and gives it a name. Tap “✏️ Rename” in English mode to give it an English name; Chinese screens keep the Chinese name. Everyone else opens the website and, in the welcome window, enters the Family ID (10 letters/numbers) from the yellow card on the Family tab, then picks their name. The Family ID works like a house key — only share it with family.
📱 2. Add it to your home screen
iPhone: open it in Safari → tap Share → “Add to Home Screen”. Android: open it in Chrome → ⋮ → “Add to Home screen”. Don’t use private browsing. The first time you open it from the icon, if the welcome window appears again, enter your Family ID and tap your name.
📅 3. Plan the week’s meals
On the Meals tab, tap “+ Add” for any breakfast, lunch or dinner. Pick a built-in dish or write your own name and ingredients (e.g. beef 2 lb, carrots 3). If the dish itself is what you buy, you can enter just an amount (e.g. dish “eggs”, ingredients “12”). Anything not in the fridge is added to the shopping list automatically; remove a dish and ingredients nobody needs are taken off again. Cooked rice is never added.
🛒 4. Shopping
Add items to the shopping list on the Family tab, with an amount — e.g. “milk 1 gallon”, “12 eggs”, “2 lb ground beef”, “a dozen eggs”. Chinese works too. Tick each item as you buy it — it goes straight into the fridge with a storage time worked out for that food. Ticked the wrong one? Tap “Undo” in the message.
Tap ✕ to delete an item. Items added by the meal plan won’t come back unless you plan a new dish that needs them.
Under “📏 Units”, choose US to have the meal plan use gallons for milk and pounds for meat and produce, or Metric / China for boxes and 斤.
🧊 5. The fridge
Items expiring soonest are on top; red means 2 days or less. Storage times are based on USDA FoodKeeper — if the package has a date, go by the package. Tap “⏱️ days left ✏️” to change a date. Meat and fish can be frozen with “❄️ Freeze” (frozen items have a blue background). Salt, sauces and oils go in the “🧂 Seasonings” section at the bottom; tap “Used up” when finished.
🍽️ 6. Record what you eat
In the fridge, tap the green “Eat” button and choose all, half or an amount. Anything left stays in the fridge (orange background) and only what you ate counts toward nutrition. Use “🗑 Delete” for things bought by mistake or thrown away, and “✏️ Amount” to correct quantities (e.g. 1 box, 6 bottles).
📊 7. Nutrition
Whoever taps “Eat” on their phone gets the credit. Enter your weight with “⚖️ Weight” on the Family tab and your daily reference is based on it: calories ≈ weight (kg) × 30, protein ≈ weight (kg) × 1 g (typical adult). You can enter kg or lb. Tap ✕ to delete a wrong record. All numbers are estimates.
⚠️ Disclaimer
Storage times, calories and protein in this app are estimates: storage times are based on the USDA FoodKeeper food storage guide (using the shorter, safer end of each range) and nutrition figures on common food composition tables. They are for everyday household reference only and are not professional food-safety, medical or nutrition advice. Whether food is still safe to eat depends on the date on the package and the food’s actual condition (smell, colour, texture) — when in doubt, throw it out. For allergies, medical conditions, pregnancy or infant feeding, consult a doctor or dietitian.
